Parliament, Thursday, 1 September 2022 – The Standing Committee on the Auditor-General last week Friday, 26 August 2022, received a briefing from the Auditor-General (AG) and the Deputy Auditor-General (DAG) on an internal matter involving its Chief People Officer (CPO).

The AG informed the committee that this matter emanated from performance reviews conducted by the AG. The performance reviews led to further meetings between the AG and the CPO, where the CPO insisted on a mutual separation agreement, which the AG refused. The CPO then advised the AG that he will expose a list of areas of alleged transgressions committed by the AG. The AG did not yield to the CPO’s demands and instead reported the issue to the DAG and requested a full independent investigation on the matter.

The committee appreciates the Office of the AG’s transparency, as it believes that this is not a small matter. The committee will await the finalisation of the independent investigation and will await the report to determine the way forward.
