Parliament, Friday, 23 September 2022 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Beauty Dlulane, has welcomed Wednesday’s announcement by the sponsor of Springbok Women and the South African Rugby, of the women’s squad that will play in the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

At the same event, team coach Mr Stanley Raubenheimer also announced the names of the 32 players who will have the honour of representing South Africa at the World Cup. Nolusindiso Booi, the team’s lock, will captain the team to New Zealand, in what will be a third Rugby World Cup for her, alongside Zenay Jordaan, who also played in the 2010 and 2014 tournaments, while Tayla Kinsey and Asithandile Ntoyanto will play in their second tournaments.

Mr Raubenheimer said that Booi, Jordaan, Kinsey and Ntoyanto’s experience will help the team during the tournament. At the capping ceremony on Wednesday, where families and friends were invited, the four previous Springbok Women’s captains were also present. The previous captains are: Mandisa Williams, Ingrid Botha, Nomsebenzi Tsotsobe and Zenay Jordaan.

Ms Dlulane congratulated the team for representing South Africa in New Zealand, saying it is an honour they must take in high regard. “We are adding our voice as the committee to the voices of those who wished you well and all of the best yesterday. We hope and trust that we are sending a competitive and a fit team to New Zealand.” Ms Dlulane assured the team that the committee will always be behind it as a source of moral support.

On 8 October, the team will play against France, on Sunday 16 October it will play against Fiji, and on Sunday 2 October, it will play against England.
