Parliament, Friday, 9 August 2022 – The portfolio committees on Mineral Resources and Energy, on Police and on Home Affairs will this weekend conduct oversight visits to illegal mining hotspots in the Sekhukhune District in Limpopo.
The three committees will meet with mining houses and communities affected by illegal mining activities, and also receive briefings from the police, the departments of Home Affairs and of Mineral Resources.
Details of the oversight visits are as follows:
Date: Saturday, 10 September:
09h00 – 10:30: Briefing by SAPS, DMRE and Home Affairs
Venue: Winterveld Recreational Club in Burgersfort
11:15 – 13:00: Visit to illegal mining areas in Burgersfort and Steelpoort
14:30 – 16:00: Meeting with affected communities (Burgersfort/ Steelpoort)
Date: Sunday, 11 September
09:30 – 10:30: Visits to areas of illegal mining: Bergening (30 km from Polokwane) and Easterling Gold Mine
11:00 – 12:00: Meeting with mining houses
