Parliament, Monday, 19 September 2022 – The Select Committee on Land Reform, Environment, Mineral Resources and Energy will this week conduct an oversight visit to Jagersfontein from 20 - 22 September to assess the extent of the damage caused by the mine dam burst disaster that took place last week.

The committee Chairperson, Ms Tebogo Modise, said: “All the communities that are near the dam have undoubtedly been traumatised by that catastrophe and the lives of the people are severely affected. While it is an immeasurable damage but it is too huge and deep,” said Ms Modise.

The committee will have engagements with the mine and all its stakeholders to, among other things, solicit information regarding factors that led to the disaster and to get a better picture on the extent of the impact of the disaster on the immediate environment.
